Business and Public Policy Roundtable Committee
These committees started out as separate groups, but they have more recently been meeting in a combined format. Chaired by Board member Dave Beran, they meet on an every-other-month schedule, but they also meet “electronically” on occasion.
Regarding Public Policy items, they often come to us with a degree of urgency regarding our input and potential support, and calling a special meeting can be difficult for people to attend. It’s in these situations that we present the issue/concern via email and offer the committee an opportunity to vett and eventually vote on the topics that come before them. Not a policy-making group, but their input is invaluable when the item is brought before our full Board of Directors for a final decision. We don’t, as a matter of policy, weigh-in on candidates, but have a long history of discussing and supporting/not supporting a number of significant ballot issues brought before us.
Small Business Roundtable has this as their Mission Statement: “The Small Business Roundtable is a group of dedicated business professionals. Our intent is to support like-minded people by overcoming obstacles, building relationships, creating healthy businesses and helping to develop opportunities within our communities.” Chaired concurrently by Gary Tedesco, the committee includes representatives of business and government, and they focus on ways to improve the business climate and to serve as a bridge between our business community and the various government entities in Macomb County.
